How do I get help for myself or a loved one who needs personal home care?

The first step you should take is contact your personal physician. He or she will make arrangements to have an independent nurse conduct a needs assessment. The physician’s office then notifies East Carolina Home Care of eligibility. Our staff reviews your needs and assigns an aide, develops a schedule and provides information on our services.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Private Pay, Medicaid, VA and Private Insurance.

How often can I expect your home aide service?

We customize the time of our daily home care service plan for you, but generally services are available on a daily basis. In some cases, our visit may be scheduled in the evening as well as on weekends.

What do I do if our loved one has trouble understanding?

There are situations when an individual may not have the capacity or ability to understand our programs, policies and fees. Due to regulations, a family member cannot serve as liaison in these matters. We will advise, or assist you, in designating a person who can help with procedural matters.

Can you explain the annual review to me?

The State of North Carolina requires that each individual who receives personal home care undergo an annual assessment. Your staff representative will assist you in this process.

Do you offer emergency services?

No. Our services are scheduled. If you have an immediate emergency, please call 911.

East Carolina Home Care staff cannot dispense medications. We can remind our clients to take them, but we cannot give them.

Do you bring food into the home or cook it there?

We provide in-home cooking, but please advise us if you are receiving Meals On Wheels as that may affect our service plan.

If you see some unusual physical condition during an appointment, do you report it to someone?

Yes, our home care aides are trained to call the East Carolina Home Care office and report anything unusual he or she may find during a visit.
