Dementia is a chronic and progressive condition that affects the cognitive abilities of a person. It is commonly associated with memory loss, difficulty in thinking, and a decline in social and communication skills. For seniors with dementia, home care may be the best option for their well-being and safety.

Dementia care at home can provide seniors with personalized care that is tailored to their unique needs and preferences. It can also provide family members with much-needed support and guidance as they navigate the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia. With the right support, seniors with dementia can maintain their independence and quality of life in the comfort of their own homes.

Our aides are required to receive up to date training on Alzheimer’s and Dementia’s each year. They are trained to know exactly how to engage and encourage modified activities with your loved ones. These activities adapted to the progression of their disease process, such as puzzles, painting, taking walks and activities to assist with memory or encouragement of independently performing a task about themselves.

What is Dementia Home Care?

Dementia home care refers to the care provided to seniors with dementia in the comfort of their own homes. It is a non-medical form of care that focuses on assisting seniors with their daily activities and improving their quality of life. Dementia home care can include a wide range of services, such as meal preparation, medication management, personal hygiene assistance, housekeeping, transportation, and companionship.

When to Consider Dementia Care at Home?

When a senior is diagnosed with dementia, their family members often face the difficult decision of choosing the best care option. While nursing homes and assisted living facilities are available, dementia care at home may be the most suitable option for seniors who want to maintain their independence and stay in a familiar environment. Here are some situations when dementia home care may be considered:

Early-Stage Dementia

In the early stages of dementia, seniors can still perform most of their daily activities independently. However, they may need some assistance with certain tasks, such as cooking, cleaning, and transportation. Dementia home care can provide seniors with the support they need to maintain their independence and stay connected with their community

Increased Care Needs

As dementia progresses, seniors may require more assistance with their daily activities. In some cases, family members may not be able to provide the level of care that their loved ones need. Dementia home care can provide a safe and comfortable environment for seniors, where they can receive personalized care based on their unique needs and preferences.

Reduced Mobility

Seniors with dementia may experience mobility issues, which can make it difficult for them to perform daily activities. Dementia home care can provide seniors with the support they need to move around safely and comfortably. Home caregivers can assist with mobility aids, such as walkers and wheelchairs, and provide transportation to medical appointments and social activities.

Alzheimer's Home Care vs. Dementia Care at Home

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for about 60-80% of all cases. While Alzheimer’s and dementia share many symptoms, there are some key differences in the care provided. Alzheimer’s home care focuses specifically on the needs of seniors with Alzheimer’s disease, while dementia home care can provide care for seniors with any form of dementia.

Alzheimer’s home care may include specialized care techniques, such as memory therapy, behavioral interventions, and sensory stimulation. Caregivers may also receive specialized training in Alzheimer’s care. However, both Alzheimer’s home care and dementia home care can provide seniors with personalized care that is tailored to their unique needs.
